The dozy police constable was caught napping on Hing Yip Street in Kwun Tong by a member of the public, who filmed the whole process when he knocked on the patrol car’s side window, trying to wake up one of Hong Kong’s finest asleep on the job.
The video showed that the PTU officer, who is wearing sunglasses and asleep in the driver’s seat, seemed to have been startled by the few knocks on the window. He then dragged open the window and ask for the man’s business.
The man - who is filming the process, repeatedly questioned if the officer is sleeping on his job. The officer skirted the question and keep on asking the man’s purpose of knocking on his car window.
Just as the man filmed the officer’s police number on his shoulder and reading it aloud, the officer then ordered the man to produce proof of identity.
“Take out your Hong Kong ID and let me jot down your ID number,” the officer said.
The man went on and explained the reason for knocking on the officer’s car window.
“As Hong Kong citizens, it is our duty to remind public servants to do their job, especially when seeing one napping, slacking off at work. That is why I knock on your car,” said the man, adding he will file a complaint regarding this incident.
The man also said he is willing to hand the officer his Hong Kong ID, asking the officer to step out of his vehicle to do his job properly.
The force said they are now investigating the matter. According to the Police (Discipline) Regulations, sleeping on duty is a disciplinary offense.
