35-year-old man took a 3-meter leap to adjacent building to escape from rooftop fire in Hung Hom

A 35-year-old Indian climbed out of a window and jumped over to an adjacent building that is 3 meters apart, escaping from a rooftop fire at Good Rich Mansion in Hung Hom, he was not injured.

The fire broke out at a rooftop apartment of the building around 11pm yesterday. Officials said no casualty was reported.

The man said during the fire, he had nowhere to go with thick smoke rushing in.

“I had no choice but to take the jump, try to survive,” he said.

Around 20 residents were evacuated. Firefighters responded to the scene and deployed two breathing apparatus teams, the fire was put out after 30 minutes.

According to reports, the blaze started from four ignition points, with sundries on the staircase catching fire first, spreading to the rooftop apartments. An LPG tank was left behind on the staircase.

A police spokesman said initial information indicated the fire was suspicious and they will conduct further investigations.
