A pro-government group has voiced opposition to any additional funding being given to RTHK, saying the public broadcaster’s ratings are too low, and its programmes are biased and anti-government, RTHK reports.
"You look at the YouTube and they spend a little money, just very limited resources. But they can have very good ratings," said Politihk Social Strategic chairman Innes Tang. "That is why we think RTHK should improve their programme standard before they get more resources."
"More resources means more wastage of money," he added.
Tang said his group had collected 50,000 signatures in support of its campaign and had handed it to pro-government lawmakers.
He said a body consisting of the general public should be set up to monitor RTHK's production, and unprofessional staff should be sacked.
Earlier this week, the Democratic Party said the government's next budget should include a HK$5 billion seed fund for government department RTHK, as an alternative source of funding.
