Art021 is Hong Kong's newest art fair, opening on August 28 and running until September 8.
The exciting expanded program promises to engage with new audiences across local and international communities.
This inaugural fair has generated significant buzz in the art sector following the decision by the mainland Chinese company organizing the event to transition from managing the DnA Design and Art Fair in nearby Shenzhen to establishing a presence in Hong Kong.
Unlike traditional fairs in a single location, Art021 Hong Kong will unfold across four distinct venues, reflecting the city's rich cultural landscape.
The central venue will be the Asia-Pacific headquarters of auction house Phillips in the West Kowloon Cultural District, hosting gallery booths from tomorrow to Sunday.
Inspired by famous Middle Eastern folktales, the non-commercial curatorial project One Thousand and One Nights is Hong Kong's first major exhibition focused on west Asia.
Featuring artists like Tala Madani, Shilpa Gupta and Mandy El Sayegh and supported by prominent galleries such as White Cube and David Kordansky, the exhibition creates a platform for connecting art communities from the Global South.
On the same dates, the Asia Society's Hong Kong Centre in Admiralty will showcase film-related programs while the Fringe Club in Central will feature experimental art installations, live performances and forums.
Victoria Park will host a large-scale, free public art exhibition throughout the fair, further enhancing community engagement and accessibility.
This initiative is designed to make art more accessible and foster community among art enthusiasts.
In an exciting development, Art021 is inviting galleries from Hong Kong, Macau and Guangdong to participate in a "Greater Bay Area Art Week."
This initiative aims to promote local art communities by showcasing satellite events linked to the main fair, which will run until September 8.
Art021 Hong Kong joins an already vibrant art scene, which includes well-known events such as Art Basel Hong Kong, Art Central and the Affordable Art Fair.
With the backing of the Hong Kong administration's Mega Arts and Cultural Events Fund and financial sponsorship from insurer Sun Life, Art021 aims to create a fresh model for art fairs in the region.
