St Stephen's Girls College in Mid-Levels has said pro-Beijing columnist Christine Wat Wing-yin twisted the story of police being called to the school to help a student in apparent distress locked inside a toilet.
Wat accused authorities at the top school of refusing to allow uniformed constables into the premises to help the student.
St Stephen's responded yesterday by stating the school had in fact called police to the campus after checking CCTV footage that showed a girl was locked in a restroom on the third floor of the school's Jubilee Building on Valentine's Day.
"We deplore Wat's untrue comments and accusations, and we reserve all rights for legal action," a statement read.
Police said constables and firefighters had entered the campus, and a female student was restored to safety after persuasion.
It was noted that police officers are entitled and obliged to enter any public or private venues if circumstances warrant it, and hinderance could constitute an offense.
