Police said the officer, attached to the Kwun Tong district uniform patrol team, was discovered at about 7.45am by colleagues. She was unresponsive with no signs of breathing or pulse and was certified dead at the scene. A service firearm was found beside her.
Police Commissioner Joe Chow Yat-ming visited the station later in the morning to learn more about the incident and offered condolences to the officer’s family.
The loading and unloading area was cordoned off for investigation, with visible bloodstains inside. Dozens of officers gathered at the station, many appearing solemn. The police chief also entered the area to inspect the scene and met with the deceased’s relatives. One female family member was seen in distress and was assisted by others.
Preliminary investigation suggests the officer used her issued weapon to shoot herself.
Sources said a note was found on the officer’s mobile phone mentioning work-related stress. The inspector had graduated from the police academy in September last year after transferring from the auxiliary force. She had previously worked in a criminal investigation unit before being reassigned to uniformed duties.
She had reportedly expressed concerns about work pressure and considered resigning. On the morning of the incident, she reported for duty, collected her service weapon, and later shot herself while alone in the loading area.
Police have launched an investigation into the incident. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
