The Hong Kong Bar Association (HKBA) has conferred life membership on Senior Counsel Graham Harris for his exceptional contributions to justice and mentoring generations of barristers.
The Hong Kong Bar Association unanimously passed a resolution at its Extraordinary General Meeting on Friday to grant life membership to Graham A. Harris, S.C., making him the ninth recipient.
Harris is a highly regarded criminal barrister specializing in white-collar crime and regulatory matters, known for top-notch advocacy.
Called to the English Bar in 1975 and Hong Kong Bar in 1985, he served as Crown Counsel from 1984, rising to Deputy Principal Crown Counsel before private practice in 1995. Appointed Senior Counsel in 2011.
HKBA Chairman José Antonio Maurellet, S.C., said Graham is well known for his devoted and selfless contribution to the development of the legal profession.
He has mentored over 100 pupils at the Hong Kong and England Bars—a record possibly unmatched by many Senior Counsel—and inspired many more by speaking regularly at HKBA’s Advanced Legal Education courses for pupillage, imparting legal knowledge and ethical conduct without reservation, nurturing and inspiring countless successors, and successfully cultivating many barristers who can stand alone in various areas of law.
He is also a guest lecturer at several universities in the mainland.
Maurellet added that Graham has been a model and encouragement to many, representing what the Bar is at its best: kind, generous with his time, principled and independent.
Life Membership recognizes outstanding service to the administration of justice or the Bar Association. Harris brings the total number of life or honorary life members to 20.
