A burst freshwater pipe at Lok Wah South Estate in Sau Mau Ping left more than 200 households without water supply on the first day of the Lunar New Year.

The incident occurred at around 8pm on Tuesday at Hei Wah House. A water pipe on a canopy suddenly ruptured, sending a powerful jet of water cascading down like a heavy downpour. Residents had to wade through water to enter and exit the building.
Social media users quickly shared videos of the scene, with some quipping about the timing during the holidays. According to a preliminary investigation, a freshwater pipe on the canopy had corroded and broken.

The Water Supplies Department was notified and sent personnel to shut off the water valve. Units on the eighth floor and below, affecting over 200 households, lost water supply.
In a Facebook post, the WSD stated the burst pipe is part of the estate's internal water system. The Housing Department's maintenance team is conducting emergency repairs, with the WSD providing technical support and arranging temporary water supplies for affected residents.
