The burst pipe occurred on Tuesday evening (Feb 17), the first day of Lunar New Year, affecting water supply to flats on the second through seventh floors of Hei Wah House.
Housing Department engineers and contractors conducted detailed inspections and carried out initial repairs, temporarily restoring water supply by around 7 am on Wednesday(Feb 18).
However, as the repaired pipes were still leaking, follow-up repairs were initiated at 11 pm on the same night, which again suspended water supply for the 216 affected flats.
The repair work was completed in the early hours of Thursday, with full water supply restored by 3.15am.
The Housing Department stated that the estate office had put up notices throughout the building to keep residents informed of the repair schedule and assist them in storing enough freshwater during the supply suspension.
One resident, surnamed Cheung, acknowledged the disruption, but noted the unfortunate timing. "Although it didn't affect us too much, such accident occured during the New Year would make some people unhappy," she said.
