The West Kowloon Cultural District (WKCD) welcomed more than 17 million visits last year, marking a 13 percent increase compared with the previous year, according to the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority.
The authority said attendance at its two flagship museums — the Hong Kong Palace Museum and M+ — was driven largely by mainland and overseas visitors, who accounted for around 60 to 70 percent of audiences.
The Hong Kong Palace Museum recorded about one million visits over the year. Its ongoing special exhibition, Ancient Egypt Unveiled: Treasures from Egyptian Museums, has attracted more than 220,000 visitors so far.
Meanwhile, M+ logged over 2.6 million visits last year. Its special exhibition Picasso for Asia—A Conversation, held from March to July, drew more than 200,000 visitors.
Beyond exhibitions, the cultural district staged more than 900 performances last year, attracting about 260,000 audience members.
Looking ahead, the authority said it will host two major international events this year: the second Hong Kong International Cultural Summit in March and the AAPPAC 2026 Hong Kong Conference in October.
