Two police officers were injured after a BMW with an expired vehicle license fled a police stop and crashed into three vehicles in Tai Po on Thursday morning (Feb 12).
At about 9.33am, officers on patrol spotted a black BMW with an expired license at the Lam Kam Road Interchange and tailed the vehicle. When police moved in to stop it near Kwong Fuk roundabout, the driver tried to speed away.
The BMW squeezed between a bus and a taxi but hit both vehicles. After officers got out of their patrol car, the BMW reversed and rammed the police vehicle, resulting in a four-vehicle crash.
Officers smashed the car windows and subdued a male driver and a female passenger at the scene. Both were handcuffed for questioning.
Police found a small amount of suspected drugs in the vehicle, and a drug-sniffing dog was deployed for further searches.
Two officers suffered minor injuries, while the female taxi driver reported dizziness. All were taken to the hospital.
Police are investigating.
