China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemned several Western countries and the EU for criticizing Hong Kong's judicial handling of Jimmy Lai's national security case, calling their statements malicious interference in China's internal affairs.
China's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian sharply criticized the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, and European Union for issuing statements on the Jimmy Lai case, accusing them of maliciously smearing Hong Kong and undermining its rule of law.
Lin described Lai as a key planner and participant in major anti-China and destabilizing activities in Hong Kong, with clear facts and solid evidence of national security crimes. He said the Hong Kong judiciary's ruling was lawful, proper, and beyond question.
He stressed that Hong Kong affairs are purely China's internal matter, its rule of law is untouchable, and no foreign country has the right to interfere or comment.
China remains resolute in safeguarding national sovereignty, security, and development interests, as well as fully implementing "one country, two systems."
Lin urged the relevant parties to respect China's sovereignty, abide by international law and basic norms of international relations, and immediately stop interfering in Hong Kong affairs or China's internal matters in any form.
