Wild boar put down after getting head stuck in Pok Fu Lam railing

A wild boar had to be put down on Monday after it got its head stuck in roadside railings in Pok Fu Lam.

Police received a report at around 1pm that a boar was trapped at the junction of Sassoon Road and Victoria Road, with its head caught in railings and bleeding from injuries. Online photos showed the boar immobilized between the bars.

A citizen who stayed with the animal to try to calm it described the boar as very frightened. Police arrived about five minutes later.

The Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department said it received the police referral at about 2pm. As the boar was seriously injured, staff were dispatched immediately. Together with firefighters, they captured the animal, which was later put down.

The department said the boar was an adult female, measuring about 1.4 meters long and weighing roughly 100 kilograms.
