A 65-year-old woman was killed in a traffic accident in Kwun Tong early Monday morning (Feb 9) after she was struck by a medium goods vehicle while pushing a cardboard cart across Kwun Tong Road.
The crash happened at about 6am near the junction of Kwun Tong Road and Tsui Ping Road. Police said the truck was traveling in the fast lane toward Lam Tin when it hit the woman as she was crossing the carriageway with a handcart loaded with cardboard.
She was reportedly thrown about 30 meters by the impact and sustained critical injuries.
Paramedics found her unconscious at the scene and rushed her to United Christian Hospital, where she was certified dead at 6.20am.
Blood stains and scattered cardboard were found on the fast lane after the collision.
Sources said the victim lived with her son in a flat at Tsui Ping (South) Estate.
The 60-year-old truck driver was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving causing death. The Kowloon East regional traffic accident investigation team is handling the case.
