A former actress, Sharon Kwok Sau-wan, who runs a parrot rescue group, had her car windscreen smashed with a threatening note left on it in Yuen Long on Friday night, demanding she “return the bird.”
The incident happened around 9pm yesterday in the remote and dimly lit area of Pok Wai Road, Yuen Long. Kwok, founder of Hong Kong Parrot Rescue, parked her private car, that has the organisation's logo on it, to deliver supplies to a vet friend and help search for the friend’s missing parrot with a flashlight.
After about half an hour, she returned to find the windscreen shattered. A note stuck on the front read that she must “return the bird” or face worse consequences next time.
Kwok reported the matter to the police immediately. She believes the attack may have stemmed from resentment toward her rescue work but stressed she has never kept any parrot for herself.
While not overly worried for her own safety unless weapons are involved, she expressed concern for her family’s wellbeing and noted police advised her to check the car for tracking devices.
Police stated that they had received a report at 10.15pm yesterday about a 56-year-old woman surnamed Kwok. The case is classified as criminal damage and is being investigated by the Yuen Long District Crime Squad, which is reviewing nearby security footage to identify the suspect.
