A 30-year-old Filipino woman was found dead in her Tuen Mun home after a domestic dispute with her French husband, who was said to be working as an associate professor at the City University, according to local reports.
Police were called around 4pm on Wednesday (Dec 31) after the 48-year-old husband reported his wife unconscious in their flat at Avignon in So Kwun Wat, Tuen Mun.
He said they had argued and fought over their daily routines on that day. After the dispute, he went to sleep in the living room, leaving her in the bedroom.
Both were Hong Kong residents. Their domestic helper, who only occasionally stayed overnight, had left the flat around 1am.
The husband and helper tried to enter the room around 4pm but found the door blocked. Paramedics pronounced the woman dead at the scene. An autopsy is needed to determine the exact cause of death.
The case is being handled by the Tuen Mun district crime squad and is classified as a body discovery for now.
Heroin was found during a search of the flat. The husband was arrested on suspicion of possessing dangerous drugs.
According to Sing Tao Daily, the sister publication of The Standard, the research areas of the professor involved in the case are about Thailand and Southeast Asia, political development as well as comparative political institutions. The man is said to be teaching comparative politics, methodology and Southeast Asian politics from his specialties.
