The course aims to equip students with essential skills in the disassembly and assembly of cabin facilities.
In an exclusive interview with The Standard, Tsang Yuk-poon, head of aircraft engineering training of HKIAA, explained that the course aims to equip students with essential skills in the disassembly and assembly of cabin facilities, including seats, bulkheads, lavatories, and galleys, for large-scale aircraft maintenance.

Following the French course model and adapting to local needs, he said the formal course next year is planned to last two to three months and feature a phased teaching format, combining technical theory and practical training with a strong emphasis on hands-on experience using real aircraft.
“Through repetitive practical training, graduates will be able to complete standard cabin facility disassembly tasks without supervision,” he said.
Clear admission standards will be set to group students by skill level, with beginner classes for newcomers and advanced classes for experienced mechanics.
Yeung Wai-chung, a senior aircraft mechanic with 10 years of experience, shared that the course helps him gain a deeper understanding of aircraft structure.

He said his work primarily involves quick inspections of aircraft near the runway and temporary maintenance, which rarely involves prolonged disassembly or dealing with more complex internal structures. Through the course, he can understand more things that were previously unclear.
He Junwei, another student, a mechanic trainee who entered the field in July after graduating from a Guangzhou college, emphasized the hands-on experience gained.
“It looks simple, but the actual operation is quite complex, requiring constant consultation with the instructors,” he said, noting the benefits from interactions with experienced professionals and peers.

He hopes to build his aviation career in Hong Kong, appreciating the international environment and the benefits of English application.
