The Hospital Authority has confirmed that a long-serving patient care assistant from the psychiatric ward at Tai Po Hospital was among the 128 victims of the Wang Fuk Court inferno.
Described by colleagues as a deeply committed and well-loved member of staff who had worked at the hospital for many years, the worker perished in the blaze that destroyed their home.
The Authority has reached out to the family with heartfelt condolences, immediately released emergency financial aid, and pledged comprehensive support ranging from psychological counselling to practical help with daily needs.
A memorial corner has been set up at the hospital for staff to pay their respects, while the New Territories East hospital cluster has activated counselling services for any employees struggling with the loss.
One other Hospital Authority worker remains unaccounted for, and teams are working closely with the family and government departments in the hope of locating them soon.
Around 60 staff members from various hospitals have lost their homes in the disaster and are being offered temporary accommodation and compassionate leave.
