A 41-year-old Filipino domestic helper appeared in court on Friday (Nov 14) after being charged with child abuse for allegedly assaulting her employer’s 11-month-old son. She was remanded in custody at the Eastern Magistrates’ Courts pending further investigation.
The defendant, identified as A.J.B., is accused of slapping the infant’s back and neck and dragging him at a flat in Caroline Height, Happy Valley, on November 11. She faces one count of ill-treatment or neglect of a child or young person.
Prosecutors requested an adjournment pending further police inquiries, including the retrieval of the baby’s medical report. Magistrate Kestrel Lam Tsz-hong postponed the hearing to January 9, ordering the defendant to remain in custody.
Represented by a duty lawyer, A.J.B. did not apply for bail but reserved the right to seek a bail review, which is scheduled for November 21.
It is understood that the helper has been dismissed by her employer. Court documents show she currently has no fixed address.
