Hong Kong Police Force hosted its inaugural Ethics Governance Roundtable on Wednesday, with participation from Interpol, the Independent Commission Against Corruption and representatives from eight countries including the United States, Australia and Japan.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Management) Chan Joon-sun led police representatives in discussions with Interpol's delegation headed by Office of Internal Oversight Director Eugênio Ricas, ICAC officials led by Deputy Commissioner Yau Shu-chun, and consuls and liaison officers from Australia, Indonesia, Japan, Mongolia, Netherlands, Philippines, Thailand and the United States.
Participants shared frameworks for enhancing ethical awareness and fostering financial prudence among officers, while exchanging best practices. Attendees reached consensus on addressing emerging challenges in ethics governance through strengthened cross-border coordination.
Chan emphasized that police authority derives not only from law but from public trust, which "must be earned every single day through actions, transparency and accountability."
Interpol's Ricas thanked Hong Kong police for providing an international platform facilitating cross-border dialogue, noting the roundtable demonstrated Hong Kong's proactive role as a key hub for international policing collaboration.
The police force will continue leveraging Hong Kong's role as a "super connector" through international policing platforms including Interpol to strengthen collaboration while upholding integrity as the law enforcement cornerstone.
