A high-speed crash in Macau’s Areia Preta saw a Lamborghini sports car plow into a restaurant on Saturday, injuring six people and leaving the establishment in disarray, with authorities attributing the accident to a driver’s error.
The incident occurred around 2pm today when a dark grey Lamborghini, driven by a man in his sixties, smashed into a ground-floor restaurant at Kwong Wa Building on Rua de Ma Kau Seak.
The vehicle barreled into the eatery, where several customers and staff were present, unable to evade the sudden impact.
Local firefighters and paramedics quickly arrived to provide first aid and transported the injured to a hospital.
The six victims, ranging in age from 37 to 75, included three customers, two restaurant staff, and the male driver, all of whom sustained minor injuries and are reported to be in stable condition.
Public Security Police Force of Macau preliminary investigation suggests the driver mistakenly pressed the accelerator while attempting to park, causing the car to surge forward into the restaurant.
The driver passed a breathalyzer test, ruling out alcohol as a factor, and authorities are considering charges related to negligent driving and causing bodily harm.
Images and videos circulating online show the extensive damage, with the car lodged inside the restaurant, shattered glass from the entrance scattered across the floor, and food and debris strewn about in the chaotic aftermath.
According to local media, the Lamborghini involved in the crash is over a decade old and was purchased by the driver about a year ago.
