Hong Kong’s largest annual cycling event Sun Hung Kai Properties Hong Kong Cyclothon – organized by the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) – will take place on November 30 this year, featuring 50- and 32-kilometer rides as well as the inaugural World University Trophy, where university students are invited to take part.
Adding to the excitement, legendary cyclist Mark Cavendish – the first rider in Tour de France history to win 35 round victories – will participate in the 50km non-competitive ride, cycling alongside fellow participants on the Hong Kong route.
The classic 50km route will kick off at 5.15 am and includes the iconic “four tunnels, three bridges” route – covering Cheung Ching Tunnel, Nam Wan Tunnel, Eagle’s Nest Tunnel, Sha Tin Heights Tunnel, Tsing Ma Bridge, Ting Kau Bridge, and Stonecutters Bridge. Participants will ride along major roads, passing through numerous iconic landmarks that offer a unique view of the cityscape.
After the ride, Cavendish is set to make an appearance at the Cyclothon Carnival, where he will meet fans at the CEO Charity and Celebrity Ride and attend a star rider sharing session. This is a not-to-be-missed chance for fans to engage with the sport and encounter a cycling icon firsthand.

“I was absolutely delighted when I was invited to join everyone at the 2025 Sun Hung Kai Properties Hong Kong Cyclothon! Having been to Kong Kong a few times, I know how wonderful it is for cycling, how much the community loves it and how great this event is. I have some amazing friends in Hong Kong and cannot wait to see them again and hopefully meet many more,” Cavendish said.
This year’s 32km ride will begin at 7.15am, including the inaugural World University Trophy, bringing together cyclists from universities in Hong Kong, the mainland, and overseas and facilitating cultural exchange.
Cyclists are encouraged to meet specific average speeds for their respective events. Participants in the 50km ride must aim for 29 km per hour or faster, making it ideal for experienced cyclists with endurance and speed, while those in the 32km must maintain a speed of 24kph, suitable for cyclists with reasonable experience.
All registrants for both rides are required to attend a cycling technique assessment, with exemptions granted to certain cyclists with specific experience.
The fun extends to the West Kowloon Cultural District, where the Cyclothon Carnival, CEO Charity and Celebrity Ride and Family Fun Ride will take place. There will be new and familyfriendly elements such as sports experience zones and live performances, offering a diverse range of recreational activities for visitors of all ages and interests.
The Family Fun Ride and CEO Charity and Celebrity Ride are held together this year along a new waterfront route in the West Kowloon Cultural District for the first time, with dedicated cheering zones for spectators to voice support for the cyclists.
Both rides are charity-focused, with 100 percent of registration fees to be donated to The Community Chest of Hong Kong to support those in need, with additional contributions from Sun Hung Kai Properties.
Furthermore, the City Cycling Challenge around Greater Bay Area (Hong Kong) – Sun Hung Kai Properties Men’s and Women’s Open will extend beyond Tsim Sha Tsui for the first time with a longer course taking in varied terrain.
The men’s route will stretch 30km through four districts, starting from Salisbury Road in Tsim Sha Tsui and navigating a “two tunnels, two bridges” course, passing through Cheung Ching Tunnel, Ting Kau Bridge, Nam Wan Tunnel, and Stonecutters Bridge before finishing at the Jordan Road flyover.
The women’s route spans 8km, covering the West Kowloon Highway and passing iconic landmarks such as the former Kowloon-Canton Railway Clock Tower, the Hong Kong Space Museum, the International Commerce Centre, the Xiqu Centre, and the Hong Kong Palace Museum. Participants can enjoy a scenic route as well as a thrilling cycling experience.
To make it easier for cyclists to invite friends and form teams, the organizer has announced an extension of the registration deadline to September 30.
