A new initiative backed by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust and the Institute of Philanthropy launched on Tuesday to cultivate the city’s next generation of innovation and technology talent, blending national pride with a global perspective through masterclasses and exchange programs.
Supported by the Institute of Philanthropy and The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust with a HK$150 million donation, the project partners with the China Soong Ching Ling Foundation and The Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups to inspire and educate young people.
The launch ceremony, held at the Hong Kong Palace Museum, featured a prerecorded address from Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu, alongside prominent figures from various organizations, including the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government and the Chinese Academy of Engineering.
The initiative aligns with China’s 14th Five-Year Plan, which positions Hong Kong as a global hub for innovation and technology.
A key component of the project is a series of Masterclasses led by distinguished mainland Chinese experts, who will engage students through public lectures and school visits, covering topics such as artificial intelligence, aerospace, marine science, and traditional Chinese culture.
Approximately 300 local students attended the inaugural Masterclasses, with plans for experts to visit 12 secondary schools and three universities, reaching thousands more.
The project also includes exchange tours, with nearly 260 students having visited Beijing, Shanghai, and Xi’an in August to explore cutting-edge innovations and cultural heritage.
Additional activities, such as career exploration events and teacher training programs, aim to spark curiosity and enhance educators’ skills.
The three-year initiative targets over 2,000 young people and 500 educators, leveraging the expertise of its partners to provide access to advanced opportunities and tailor programs to Hong Kong’s needs.
Funded through The Hong Kong Jockey Club’s integrated business model, which supports community projects via racing and responsible wagering, the project seeks to cultivate talent and strengthen national identity.
By connecting students with global and national advancements, it aims to inspire contributions to Hong Kong’s future as a technology leader.
