The Hong Kong Business Aviation Centre’s new passenger terminal has commenced service, offering private jet passengers a streamlined one-stop process for customs, immigration and quarantine clearance.
The facility, unveiled on Wednesday (Sep 10), includes a VIP lounge certified by Crescent Rating for Muslim travelers and a 26-meter-long canopy – the first of its kind in Asia – extending from the terminal building to the apron.
Additional services include luxury car rentals, cross-border transportation and hotel booking assistance.
Secretary for Transport and Logistics Mable Chan described Hong Kong International Airport as the city’s "golden reputation" during the opening ceremony while referring to the business aviation center as a long-term "most valuable player" in serving high-end business and leisure travelers with world-class service.
Chan reported that the center handled more than 30 business flights in the first half of this year, all carrying passengers related to listing activities.
She also highlighted that several international football teams and stars used the facility during recent sports events, expressing hope that it would attract more global sports and cultural figures to Hong Kong.
With the three-runway system becoming operational last November, Hong Kong's aviation industry is entering an unprecedented period of opportunity, Chan said.
The expanded terminal, which completed construction in July, is expected to double processing capacity to meet growing demand from the Greater Bay Area and beyond.
Airport Authority Hong Kong chairman Fred Lam Tin-fuk noted that the three-runway system has removed previous constraints on business aviation growth, and that the Authority will provide comprehensive support to facilitate the development of HKBAC, positioning Hong Kong International Airport as a premier business aviation hub in Asia.
Raymond Kwok Ping-luen, chairman and managing director of Sun Hung Kai Properties, said the center aims to lead high-value development in Hong Kong’s aviation sector.
He noted that Hong Kong regained the top position in global IPO markets in July, and that executives from half of the top 30 Hong Kong-listed companies use the center for private aviation.
Additionally, more than half of the football teams participating in July’s matches and August’s Saudi Super Cup utilized the center’s facilities, demonstrating its role in supporting Hong Kong’s event economy.
