The Hong Kong Bulls, competing in the National Basketball League (NBL), have been compelled to move their playoff games to Shenzhen after their usual home court, the Southorn Playground, was deemed non-compliant with league regulations.
The Hong Kong Bulls, a team participating in China’s National Basketball League (NBL), will host their semifinal matches at the Shenzhen Gymnasium.
Should the team advance to the finals, the first two home games are already scheduled to take place at the Kai Tak Arena, following an agreement reached between the team and the venue.
The decision to relocate comes after the Bulls were informed by the NBL that the basketball hoops at Southorn Stadium did not meet the league’s required distance of two meters from the baseline, rendering the venue unsuitable for playoff games.
Upon receiving the notice, the team immediately reached out to the Culture, Sports, and Tourism Bureau, as well as other local venues compliant with NBL standards.
However, due to the short notice and scheduling conflicts, no suitable local alternative was available for the semifinals.
The team expressed gratitude to the bureau and the Kai Tak Arena for their full support and coordination during the process.
General Manager of the Hong Kong Bulls, Leo Sun, acknowledged that the change of venue presents certain challenges, especially given the strong support the team typically receives from its home fans.
He extended an invitation to Hong Kong supporters to travel to Shenzhen to cheer on the team and help fuel their championship aspirations.
A spokesperson for the Culture, Sports, and Tourism Bureau confirmed that assistance was promptly offered after the Bulls raised the venue issue in July.
As the team indicated, the two final playoff games in mid-September have been arranged to be held at the Kai Tak Arena.
