Residents of Ming Yuen Centre were left without water and electricity for a second day after a water main burst affected multiple buildings in the district.
The water main burst occurred at Ming Yuen Western Street on Sunday night, with the meter room at the residential building drenched.
Lawmaker Edward Leung Hei said on Monday morning that contractors have completed preliminary repairs to the electrical room and are aiming to test the power system’s safety by noon today. However, the building remains without electricity, and upper-floor residents are still without running water.

In a social media update, Leung explained that the burst pipe caused a complete water and power outage in Ming Yuen Centre last night.
While the Water Supplies Department has since fixed the damaged pipe and restored supply to lower floors, the flooding severely damaged the meter room, leaving the building in the dark and affecting water pressure for higher-level households.
Leung noted that contractors have begun clearing water from the meter room to ensure safe power restoration.
He said Hongkong Electric and the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD) must first assess the site’s safety before testing can proceed. He pledged to push authorities for a swift resolution and urged affected residents to contact his office for assistance.
