The exhibition transports visitors to the Mughal Empire's cultural zenith under three visionary rulers - Emperor Akbar, his son Jahangir, and grandson Shah Jahan. Their courts became vibrant crossroads where Persian, Indian, Chinese and European artistic traditions fused into a distinctive Mughal style.
Among the highlights is a digital recreation of Shah Jahan's iconic Taj Mahal, revealing the technical brilliance behind its floral stone inlays that symbolized eternal love.
Exquisite objects demonstrate the empire's global connections, including a Ming dynasty porcelain dish bearing Persian inscriptions that confirm Chinese ceramics in Mughal collections, and translucent jade wine cups that later inspired Qing dynasty artisans.
Opulent jewelry showcases traditional gem-setting techniques, while rare paintings offer glimpses of imperial life - from garden receptions to the curiosity about exotic wildlife like North American turkeys.
The museum enhances these treasures with interactive displays allowing close examination of miniature paintings and tactile stations where visitors can feel materials used by Mughal craftsmen.
Complementing the exhibition are educational programs including Arabic calligraphy workshops and lectures exploring cultural exchanges between the Mughal and Qing courts.
Running through February 23, 2026, this exclusive Asian showing follows the exhibition's acclaimed London debut. Tickets include access to the museum's other galleries, with special family packages available during summer months.
The exhibition represents a significant cultural milestone for Hong Kong, celebrating an empire whose artistic legacy continues to influence design across South Asia and beyond.
