A 68-year-old mainland Chinese man surnamed Zheng was arrested on suspicion of animal cruelty after allegedly kicking two dogs at Sun Yat Sen Memorial Park in Sai Ying Pun on Friday morning.
Police were called to the scene around 8am today after a dog owner reported that a stranger had approached and kicked their pets without provocation.
Officers conducted a preliminary investigation and detained Zheng on suspicion of animal cruelty.
The case has been handed over to the Western police district for follow-up.
The two dogs involved—a five-year-old Irish Soft-Coated Wheaten Terrier and a two-year-old Jack Russell Terrier, both female—did not show visible injuries but were taken to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) for examination and monitoring.
