Hong Kong Airlines has canceled flights between Hong Kong and Kagoshima as well as Kumamoto due to the sluggish demand for travel to Japan.
Flight frequencies between Hong Kong and Nagoya will also be adjusted, the airliner added. According to the airline's website, only one weekly flight is scheduled for July and August, with no flights currently listed for September.
The airline stated that affected passengers may rebook to other available destinations, including alternative cities in Japan, mainland China, Taipei, Bangkok, and Da Nang.
Passengers opting to refund their tickets will receive compensation in the form of travel vouchers, the airline added.
The company apologized for any inconvenience caused by the adjustments and assured affected passengers of its full assistance in arranging alternative plans.
A resurfaced prophecy of a catastrophic earthquake in Japan this July, described in the manga "The Future I Saw," has resulted in a significant decline in tourist activity and the postponement of travel plans.
