The National Security Department announced on Tuesday, with the approval of the Secretary for Security, that it has taken prohibition measures against the electronic information related to the game app Reversed Front: Bonfire under the Hong Kong National Security Law.
Authorities warned that downloading the app could be considered possession of seditious publications.
Additionally, providing financial or material support to the app’s developers—including in-app payments (commonly known as "microtransactions")—with the intent to fund acts of secession or subversion of state power would constitute a criminal offense.
The department urged the public to avoid engaging with or supporting the app, emphasizing that such actions could violate national security laws. Anyone who has downloaded the app is urged to delete it as soon as possible.
The department stated that the app, which is disguised as a game, is designed to promote separatist ideologies such as 'Taiwan independence' and 'Hong Kong independence.'
It advocates armed revolution and the overthrow of the fundamental systems established by the Constitution of the People's Republic of China, while also seeking to incite hatred toward the Central Government and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government.
According to the official website of the game, it stated that "Players can choose to pledge allegiance" to different camps -- including Hong Kong, Taiwan and Uyghur -- to achieve the target in the game by overthrowing the regime.
