During the Panel on Home Affairs, Culture and Sports meeting, Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism Rosanna Law discussed the torch relay, which will feature Hong Kong's iconic sites.
She mentioned that a successful tripartite collaboration with Guangdong and Macao could pave the way for more large-scale sporting events in the Greater Bay Area, indicating the potential for future regional partnerships.
The broadcasting arrangements were a focal point of discussion among lawmakers, who were concerned about whether all local TV stations would be able to broadcast the events.
It was confirmed that while China Central Television would produce the main feed, all Hong Kong free-to-air broadcasters would have access to it for live coverage and replays.
A significant role will be played by technology, with the development of a cross-border IT system for credentialing and event management.
This system will include facial recognition and GPS tracking to ensure seamless movement for athletes, particularly in events like the 230km cycling race that crosses borders six times.
With the Para Games concluding just one day before the Legislative Council elections, Law assured that there would be extensive promotion for both events, while also ensuring proper scheduling.
Regarding concerns about ticket scalping, it was revealed that a unified Greater Bay Area ticketing platform with anti-fraud measures would be implemented.
Law emphasized that this experience would be crucial for future regional sporting collaborations, highlighting the games' potential to set new standards for major events in the Greater Bay Area.
