During the ongoing trial for perverting the course of justice related to Hong Kong socialite Abby Choi Tin-fung's former mother-in-law, it was revealed that Choi had accompanied two individuals to her residence for a purported apartment viewing, marking the last location where she was seen.
Jenny Li Sui-heung is currently facing charges of perverting the course of justice for allegedly misleading the police's investigation over Choi's disappearance in February 2023.
The case, which involved Choi's dismembered remains being found in a village house in Tai Po, has captivated Hong Kong since February 2023.
According to CCTV footage from the day of Choi's appearance, Li left the Kadoorie Hill residence with her two grandchildren at 7.15am, while Choi's ex-husband Alex Kwong Kong-chi left the house at 12.45pm.
The prosecutor highlighted that Choi then arrived at the residence with two people approximately 10 minutes later for the supposed apartment viewing and departed at 2.14pm, with neither Li nor Kwong returning.
Police officer Cheung testified that an investigation was arranged with Li on February 23, 2023—two days after Choi's disappearance—at the Kadoorie Hill residence's clubhouse for inquiry.
Cheung noted that Li was cooperative in providing information regarding the residents and Choi's childcare arrangements. However, Li evaded queries related to Kwong, responding with phrases like "I don't know" and "I don't want to talk about it."
Cheung conveyed her desire to visit the Kadoorie Hill residence for investigation, as it was the last known location of Choi. However, Li declined this request, suggesting that Choi may return in the near future, rendering a visit unnecessary at the time.
Regarding the question of Li's husband, Kwong Kau's, absence from the meeting, Li stated that it is unrelated to Choi's disappearance.
Knowing Li's husband's background as a former police inspector, Cheung grew suspicious of Li's reluctance during the investigation, although she acknowledged that it could be related to her son's past, including an arrest warrant for seven counts of theft.
The trial will continue on Thursday (Jun 5).
