The government will immediately implement toll reductions when it takes over the operation of Tai Lam Tunnel on Saturday (May 31) while the tunnel will close for two hours for system transit.
Under the new toll plan, private cars will be charged HK$45 during peak hours from Monday to Saturday, HK$30 during normal hours and HK$18 during off-peak hours.
On Sundays and public holidays, a flat rate of HK$18 will apply all day.
Motorcycle tolls will be set at 40 percent of private car rates, ranging from HK$7.2 to HK$18. Taxis will maintain a fixed toll of HK$28, while other commercial vehicles, including trucks and buses, will pay HK$43 regardless of the day or time.
The Transport Department confirmed the government will assume control of the tunnel at 12am on May 31 and new tolls will take effect immediately, with manual and Autotoll lanes operating for the first three hours.
The tunnel will then temporarily close from 3am to 5am for system testing before reopening with the HKeToll electronic toll collection system at 5am.
During the two-hour closure, the tunnel’s bus stops will be suspended, affecting three overnight bus routes: Kowloon Motor Bus’s N269 running between Tin Tsz Estate and Mei Foo, N368 between Yuen Long West to Central and Long Win Bus’s NA43 between Fanling and Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Hong Kong Port.
These routes will detour via Yuen Long Highway and Tuen Mun Road, with a temporary bus stop set up at the Tuen Mun Highway Bus Interchange.
The department has notified operators, and passengers are advised to check for updates from service providers.
