The tragic incident occurred at a residence on King's Road, where the infant's 32-year-old mother, surnamed Ho, discovered her daughter unconscious at around 6am after the child had apparently slipped between the two beds overnight.
Emergency personnel rushed the unresponsive baby to Ruttonjee Hospital, where she was pronounced dead shortly after 8am despite resuscitation attempts.
Police investigations revealed the 32-year-old mother had placed the infant on an adult bed following a late-night feeding on Monday. Authorities suspect the baby later rolled into the narrow gap between the adult bed and the adjacent crib, where she became trapped.
The mother, surnamed Ho, was arrested for ill-treatment or neglect by those in charge of a child or young person.
Police are continuing their investigation into the exact circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
