Mainland netizens have voiced concern over the chaotic luggage check at Luohu Port, warning that crowded scrambles around X-ray machines during peak hours could escalate into stampedes.
All cross-border travelers, whether carrying large suitcases or small personal belongings, are required to undergo security and luggage checks when entering Shenzhen through the checkpoint.
According to posts on Xiaohongshu, luggage often tumbles out chaotically from the machine due to short conveyor belts, while the nearly one-meter guardrails further hinder passengers from quickly retrieving their belongings.
Multiple posts mentioned that travelers are forced to scramble for their belongings in cramped spaces, and individuals who react slowly risk losing their items as baggage slides onto the floor.
Netizens also pointed out that security personnel did not fulfill their role in providing assistance.
A traveler surnamed Chen told reporters that authorities could adopt the security check model applied at Shenzhen’s Luohu Station, where separate machines are designated for different luggage sizes and barriers are used to divert passenger flow.
However, some travelers expressed satisfaction with the current luggage check process, while others believed there is room for improvement, noting that inconvenience occurs only occasionally.
Luohu Port handled 1.16 million travelers during the Labour Day Golden Week, with nearly 130,000 mainland residents crossing the border on May 2 alone, according to Luohu authorities.
