Exciting large-scale events are happening around Hong Kong this May. In response to the government’s “Tourism is Everywhere” concept, Hong Kong’s premiere leisure resort Gold Coast is holding a “Gold Coast Hydrangea Festival” from 1 to 5 May in Gold Coast, Tuen Mun.
Highlights of the festival include two picturesque hydrangea-themed scenic spots composed of more than 10,000 hydrangeas, together with a series of immersive cultural and art activities such as the Hydrangea Festival Market, Floral Arts Workshop, and Art Marathon performances.
The festival attracted not only locals but also visitors to Hong Kong, creating an opportunity for them to explore Tuen Mun District as a tourist destination during the Labour Day long weekend.
The festival kicked off with a spectacular done show titled “Love in the Sky” on the evening of May 1st. Performed by 1,288 drones, the show was divided into 12 acts with a pair of pandas leading the audience to explore different scenic spots in Hong Kong and Tuen Mun. In line with the hydrangea theme, huge magical hydrangeas were also displayed to light up the skies. Accompanied by much-loved popular songs in the background, the air was filled with delight and amazement from the audience.
From May 1 to 5, Gold Coast Shopping Centre is transformed into a vibrant Hydrangea Village featuring two scenic spots adorned by over 10,000 beautiful hydrangeas in the 120-meter Hydrangea Seaside Promenade and Hydrangea Serenity Garden. With hydrangeas everywhere in Gold Coast, locals and tourists alike find this unique experience mesmerizing.

As part of the festivities, the Gold Coast Lawn comes alive with the Hydrangea Festival Market that runs for five consecutive days. Featuring over 50 thoughtfully curated stalls, this bustling market offers a wide selection of handcrafted floral-themed art and lifestyle products.
Among the highlights is an exclusive “Hydrangea Aromatherapy Stone & Essential Oil Set”, designed by Feather Natural Studio specifically for the festival. Infused with natural botanical scents, the set releases a refreshing aroma that soothes the senses and elevates the mood.
Charity sales are also held in collaboration with charitable organizations to support worthy causes.
For an interactive experience, visitors with a Floral Arts Workshop Pass busily participate in the nine creative art workshops, where they can make bespoke leather accessories, blend their own botanical ice flower teas, paint delicate pastel artworks, and create meaningful, personalised keepsakes.
More than 20 gourmet vendors are also there to prepare mouth-watering delicacies and signature beverages, such as latte art coffee and floral-shaped pastries.
Visitors particularly like the Tuen Mun “Ma La Lo Doggie’s Noodles”, a local favourite that sells over 100 bowls a day. Known for its chewy texture and rich flavour, the noodles are served with crispy pork lard and a signature preserved radish topping.
Meanwhile, Arts Marathon brought together local schools and community groups for a diverse showcase of talent, including performances by Chinese and Western orchestras, martial arts demonstrations and rhythmic rope-skipping.
Adding to the vibrant atmosphere is a dazzling schedule of activities, including sunset live concerts featuring one of the hottest Cantopop busking performers The Flame, as well as whimsical bubble performances, instant Polaroid moments, face painting and balloon twisting, ensuring a relaxing, fun-filled Labour Day long weekend for visitors of all ages.
