McDonald's marked its 50th anniversary in Hong Kong with a special celebration dinner on Wednesday night, reflecting on decades of shared memories with the city while unveiling exciting new innovations.
The event highlighted the fast-food giant's journey from its first Hong Kong outlet in 1975 to becoming the territory's largest and most beloved quick-service restaurant chain.
Hong Kong McDonald's CEO Randy Lai Wai-sze emphasized the brand's commitment to continuous innovation during her keynote speech.
She said the restaurant chain has grown alongside Hong Kong, constantly evolving to meet customers' changing tastes.
From pioneering self-order kiosks to perfecting the coffee blend based on customer feedback, the chain’s success stems from listening to Hong Kong people, said Lai.
The anniversary gala brought nostalgia to life as McDonald's iconic mascots – Ronald McDonald, Hamburglar, Grimace and Birdie – made special appearances, prompting guests to flock for photo opportunities with the childhood figures.
Lai, meanwhile, revealed impressive milestones: Hong Kong is home to four of McDonald's busiest locations globally, while the locally developed crispy thigh has sold over 30 million pieces since its launch during the Korean fried chicken craze.
The celebration also introduced McDonald's newest flagship location in Admiralty, featuring an innovative menu.
