An alleged mainland company CFO had his naughty times on a taxi filmed and uploaded to the internet, sparking privacy concerns.
Taxi camera footage that went viral yesterday showed him kissing and cuddling with a woman en route from Sai Wan to Kowloon at around 9pm.
The man took off his mask shortly after the pair boarded the taxi, then pulled off his companion's mask to kiss her. The woman also laid on the man's lap for a minute before sitting back up.
The footage sparked heated discussions online and netizens quickly identified the couple.
The man was said to be a senior staffer at a mainland-listed residential property company, while the woman apparently works for a local multilevel marketing firm.
Some netizens believed the driver had infringed the couple's privacy, but others said couples should be mindful of their behavior while on a taxi.
According to the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance, the collection and usage of anybody's personal information must be for legal purposes, sound reasons. By uploading footage that clearly showed the passengers' faces, the driver may have violated the aforementioned ordinance.
The latest debacle came just more than a year after singer Andy Hui Chi-on and TVB actress Jacqueline Wong Sum-wing were caught kissing and cuddling in the back of a car. The footage was made public by the driver.
Both celebrities had seen their public image tarnished, with Hui offering a tearful apology saying "I am a rotten man."
A year on, members of the public seem to have forgiven the duo. But the privacy issue remains unsolved, and calls for the government to tighten its grip on the use of digital cameras in vehicles, especially taxis, remain unanswered.
