Jasmine Yen has been prodigious for her tender age, having started composing since she was seven, and now has more than 70 original songs to her name.
Half of the songs were written over the past three years in a burst of creativity during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Jasmine wishes to encourage girls in this generation to be brave and confident through her music.
In 2013, Jasmine, then just nine, sang British singer-songwriter Adele's Rolling in the Deep in a show with a confidence that belied her age and converted not a few people to the belief that she was destined for stardom.
"That performance left a deep impression on me. She was on a huge stage singing Adele's Rolling in the Deep without any stage fright. From that moment on, I knew she is destined to be a star," said Andrew Chan, chief executive of Sony Music Entertainment Greater China.
"We are thrilled to welcome her to the Sony Music family. Her talent and passion will definitely take her to an unattainable high level, and I'm honored to witness it," he added.
Jasmine was admitted to the Berklee College of Music in the United States last year, making her a junior alumni of singers of such pedigrees as Wang Leehom, Ouyang Nana and Wang Yuan.
That was a singular moment for her mother, model Cissy Wang, who celebrated by posting a video of the family hugging on social media last May.
"We are so proud of you being admitted to all the universities to which you applied, but especially to be accepted at this school (with scholarship) that you wanted to go to since you were 15!" Wang said.
"Your hard work, determination, self-discipline and talent have truly paid off! So excited for your next adventures! Keep learning, keep creating!"
