Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury Christopher Hui Ching-yu met a joint delegation of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations and China on deepening cooperation, according to the bureau's social media post.
The delegation was led by Hou Yanqi, Chinese Ambassador to ASEAN and co-chair of ASEAN-China Joint Cooperation Committee. Delegation members included senior officials to ASEAN from China, Malaysia, Cambodia, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Timor-Leste, Laos, the Philippines and Brunei Darussalam.
Representatives from the Hong Kong Monetary Authority and Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing (0388) were also present, said FSTB.
Hui noted that mainland China and Hong Kong have been ASEAN's largest trade partner and major foreign investment source respectively and the SAR government has been proactively strengthening ties with the bloc.
Hui encourages ASEAN firms to have investment and financing activities in Hong Kong – the advantages of the city as one of the three major international financial centers – when expanding their overseas operations.
The delegates were also invited to join the next edition of the Asian Financial Forum to explore further opportunities for exchange and cooperation.
