Despite Keung To, member of popular local boyband MIRROR, attributing his recent fall into Sai Wan waters to the combination of painkillers and alcohol, speculation persists. However, several eyewitnesses have come forward with additional insights that may shed light on the incident
According to a report from East Week, the sister publication of The Standard, several onlookers recounted witnessing the celebrity climb over the fence near the pier next to Western Wholesale Food Market to evade the crowd seeking for photos.
As Keung attempted to stand after resting, he accidentally fell into the sea when his bottom hit the net.
Footage aired on the TV program Scoop showed Keung struggling in the water, with bystanders shouting for help.
Reports indicated that Keung was not fully unconscious while in the water and was rescued by a nearby Marine department vessel, which brought him to Central Pier before he was transported to the hospital by ambulance.
Following the incident, Keung reassured fans about his safety and health via social media, clarifying that it was purely an accidental fall.
His management company, MakerVille, later issued a statement explaining that Keung had been feeling unwell and dizzy during a jog along the seaside in Sai Wan, urging the public to refrain from unnecessary speculation and clarifying that circulating rumors were untrue.
Back to work after one night
After a restful night, Keung was back in the spotlight, radiating energy at a sharing event alongside his fellow MIRROR members—Anson Lo, Edan Lui, and Jeremy Lee.
Before heading to the airport for Paris Fashion Week, Keung took a moment to reassure his fans about his well-being.
In response to questions about his condition, Keung confirmed that he was fine after a medical check-up, with only minor injuries to his hands. He expressed his eagerness to return to work, emphasizing that his appearance was meant to calm the rumors swirling around him.
Reflecting on the incident
Emphasizing the fall was simply an accident, Keung explained he only wanted to sit by the sea to watch the sunset owing to the nice weather.
Feeling a bit unwell , Keung mentioned he leaned over the fence to relax, never expecting to fall.
“It was the first and last time,I hope everyone learns from this.” Keung said.
Addressing inquiries about any emotional issues, he clarified that he was only experiencing a mild headache and had taken painkillers along with a little drink.
He added that he could swim but was just a bit rusty and had never encountered such a situation before.
Keung later updated his Instagram story with a cheerful selfie, humorously referring to the approximately 20 scars on his arms as "a cool arm," with some already healing nicely.
Risks of mixing painkillers and alcohol
Despite Keung's reassurances, skepticism lingers among some, including veteran media personality Michelle Loo, who questioned why he would want to catch the sunset at 4 pm when the sun sets at 7 pm during a radio program.
However, Keung's appearance in Paris last Friday (June 27) suggested he was in good physical and mental health.
Regarding the combination of painkillers and alcohol, Dr. Cheung warned the public against mixing the two, as the chemical reactions can be unpredictable.
Common painkillers can upset the stomach, while stronger ones can affect the nervous system, potentially leading to unconsciousness or respiratory failure—extremely dangerous, especially for drivers.
