DHL, the largest logistics company in the world, will temporarily suspend business-to-consumer (B2C) shipments to the US with a customs value between US$800 (around HK$6,240) and US$2,500 (around HK$19,500) starting Monday (Apr 21).
In a statement to customers, the parcel carrier explained that the suspension is due to multi-day transit delays as the company is overwhelmed by filing additional documentation required following recent US Customs regulatory updates.
The US Customs and Border Protection earlier announced that it requires a formal entry process for all shipments with a value above US$800, which were previously cleared using a simplified and expedited entry process.
DHL stated that it is working diligently to scale its operations and manage the increased workload. However, shipments over US$800—regardless of their origin—may experience multi-day delays.
The company added that business-to-business (B2B) shipments to US companies with a declarable value above US$800 are not affected by the suspension, though they may also face delays.
In addition, Hongkong Post has suspended the acceptance of surface parcels to the US, with airmail services to be suspended starting Sunday.
