Jimmy Wong, a 39-year-old circus performer who immigrated from Hong Kong to the United Kingdom two years ago, has recently fascinated viewers in both regions with his stunning aerial acrobatics on the long-running competition series Britain's Got Talent.
Proudly introducing himself as coming from Hong Kong, Wong's audition featured a captivating combination of acrobatics with water dancing, earning admiration from the judges and audience, with several standing in admiration of his spectacular performance.
Trained in Berlin, Wong is renowned for integrating dance aesthetics into his high-flying acts. While his movement might seem effortless, he had put in hours of preparation and dedication to perfecting his performance.
When dance meets acrobatics
Wong graduated from the City University of Hong Kong with a degree in linguistics in 2008 and embarked on his journey in dance shortly after.
Apart from performances at the Hong Kong Arts Festival and Hong Kong Disneyland, he also danced alongside stars like G.E.M. and Jacky Cheung Hok-Yau during concerts.
Wong's talent also took him overseas, which included musical performances on cruise ships.
However, he switched his focus to acrobatics following the COVID pandemic's influence on live performances, being trained in Canada to blend his dance background with aerial techniques.
Since Wong occasionally shared his practice videos on his social media, he was invited to participate in the show last October.
Despite not advancing in the competition, Wong expressed gratitude on Instagram for the opportunity to showcase his skills to the public and for the support he received, "Grateful for this opportunity and everyone who has supported me along the way."
As a circus performer with London's "Come Alive!", Wong motivated Hongkongers to adopt a forward-looking perspective, emphasizing that numerous opportunities, including invitations to perform on the stage of Britain's Got Talent, are available to those who demonstrate persistence and determination.
