The Hong Kong Bar Association hosted a charity film screening of local production “The Way We Talk” on Thursday, inviting four non-profit organizations under the association's Legal Aid Program to watch the show.
Jose-Antonio Maurellet, Senior Counsel and Chairman of the Bar Association, said the movie conveys messages about equality, aligning with the association's support for legal aid services to ensure everyone has access to professional legal support, upholding the principle of judicial justice.
He said the event aimed to show appreciation to the association's collaborative partners and foster future cooperation to assist more citizens in need of free legal advice services in society.
This marked the first time the association organized a film screening, with Ambrose Lam San-keung, lawmaker representing the legal sector, Paul Wong Yan-yin, Sham Shui Po district officer, and Thomas Edward Kwong, former Director of Legal Aid, attending the screening to show their support.
Representatives from the four non-profit organizations were also in attendance, including District Court Judge Clement Lee Hing-nin, Chief Lecturer of Clinical Legal Education Program at the University of Hong Kong Edmond Lam King-fung, Director of Pro Bono HK Gon Yeung, and founder of Equal Justice Kay McArdle. They gathered to discuss the association's legal aid service program for the latter half of the year.
With over a hundred seats filled, beneficiaries of the Legal Aid Program and more than ten mainland Chinese judges visiting Hong Kong were also invited to attend.
The film production firm specially arranged for the producer Ho Hong, and the film’s screenwriter to participate in a post-screening discussion, sharing their creative concepts and engaging in interactive exchanges with the audience.
