Located on Soy Street, the 20-year-old theatre is one of the iconic cinemas under the Newport Circuit, featuring two screening rooms with 406 seats and accessibility facilities for all audiences.
Although there has been no official announcement regarding the closure, the theatre's website lists the films currently being screened as solely "Nazha 2," "Dark Nuns," and "Mickey 17."
The Newport Circuit was established in 1988 as a competitor to the three major cinema chains. At its peak, the circuit operated five cinemas, which included the now-closed Dynasty Theatre in Mong Kok, the President Cinema in Causeway Bay, the Lux Theatre in Hung Hom, as well as the Hyland Theatre in Tuen Mun and the Newport Theatre.
If Newport Theatre is set to cease operations, the Hyland Theatre will remain as the sole functioning cinema under the Newport Circuit.
Over the past year, a total of ten cinemas have shut down, including the Sunbeam Theatre, Golden Harvest in Kai Tak, Vwalk, the Metroplex in Kowloon Bay, Cine-Art House in Kowloon City, ACX Cinemas in North Point, MCL Cinemas Plus+ at Plaza Hollywood, and MCL's South Horizons.
