A video of a bus driver stopping mid-route in To Kwa Wan to get a steamed bun when waiting for a red light went viral recently, with a majority of netizens seemingly supportive of the driver’s action.
The video was recorded by a passenger as the bus stopped at a red light near Honour Building on To Kwa Wan Road. The text on the video reads, "The bus driver just parked on the side of the road and rushed out to get a steamed bun…Maybe I should buy one to see if it is really that good."
In the video, the bus driver can be seen standing in front of the takeaway food stall which sells steamed buns, soy products and dumplings. The video also captured the empty bus driver’s compartment and ended before the bus driver made his way back.
The clip sparked a lively discussion on the internet, with most seemingly supportive of the driver’s action. A netizen wrote, "I think he is doing this for the safety of his passengers. He might be experiencing low blood sugar or else he would not have risked his job like this."
Another user wrote, "Let the man eat! He might faint while driving if he is hungry."
Netizens also focused on whether the bus driver had enough time to have a meal: "Perhaps the delay from the previous trip caused the driver to miss his mealtime, so he bought something to eat quickly."
"Bus Drivers are humans. The way we need food and water to survive, the drivers need the same. Some people need to stop recording things that are normal, who knows now because of that video, the driver may lose his job?" The comment read.
