The company said Monday (Feb 10) that it will terminate the sales of the 41-year-old product, including the vanilla and tiramisu flavors as well as the vanilla flavor in cup form, after the licensing agreement with British ice cream brand Wall's ends.
Launched in 1982 by Wall's, Viennetta ice cream cake is beloved for its unique crunchy and rich taste achieved by layering chocolate sauce, chocolate crisps and ice cream.
Although the Hong Kong version of Viennetta has been discontinued, the Japanese version saw a resurgence in popularity in 2020, with some bringing the ice cream cake from Macau due to a shortage of stock.
Termination of the Japanese-produced Viennetta ice cream will not affect the British-produced one. Hong Kong suppliers will continue importing the British version of the dessert.
