Established in 1983 by Stanford University's Dr. Norman Zadeh, the USIC is a well-known investment competition that requires participants to trade with real money accounts and regularly submit statements for auditing.
Originally a secondary school teacher, Law transitioned to the world of investing after discovering his interest in the stock market, marking his name on the leaderboard in 2024.
With no formal training, Law broke the top performer Mark Minervini's world record in 2021, with a 353.9 percent annual return.
Law, who is also a YouTuber who shares his 15 years of trading experience with over 240,000 subscribers, attributed his success to the city's unique advantages as a global financial hub, highlighting its world-class trading infrastructure, diverse investment options, and dynamic financial ecosystem as the perfect foundation for his trading career.
Despite the solitary and challenging nature of trading, Law believed the city offers an ideal environment for success, with its robust financial systems, low tax regime, and diverse investment tools.
Additionally, Law described the city as a land of endless opportunities, hoping his success could inspire others to aim high and make their mark on the global stage, encouraging citizens to pursue goals with dedication and the right strategies.
Meanwhile, his wife, Judy Lai won her division of trading less than HK$1 million in stocks, achieving a 449.1 percent annual return.
The USIC has honoured icons such as hedge fund titans Paul Tudor Jones, Louis Bacon, and David Ryan over the past 40 years, Law's triumph marks a milestone as Hong Kong's first champion.
