Greater Bay Airlines flight are reportedly canceling a large number of flights -- with routes to Yonago and Tokushima in Japan being particularly affected -- as the airliner is experiencing delays in delivery of new aircraft as well as mandatory safety inspections of the existing fleet.
As of yesterday (Jan 20), social media has been flooded with posts from travelers reporting cancellations and rescheduling of the airline's flights scheduled in February and March.
Apart from Yonago and Tokushima, flights between Hong Kong and Japan's Sendai, Tokyo, and Osaka also see cancellations.
In addition, some passengers of the canceled Yonago return flights have been forced to adjust their itineraries to depart from Osaka's Kansai International Airport.
According to the airline's website, flights to Seoul in South Korea are still available in January and early February, but the frequency has been substantially reduced, with no flights scheduled in March.
Greater Bay Airlines explained that their flight schedule has been affected by delays in the delivery of new aircraft, along with necessary safety inspections on their current fleet. The situation has led to adjustments in certain routes and the cancellation of some flights.
The airline sincerely apologized to all affected passengers and emphasized that ticket replacements and refunds had been arranged, as well as the waiver of associated fees, to minimize inconveniences.
To further assist the affected passengers, the airline has increased staffing at its customer service center to address the ticket arrangements.
Currently, the airline operates 12 routes, including Tokyo, Osaka, Tokushima, Yonago, Sendai, Seoul, Taipei, Bangkok and Zhoushan, via eight Boeing 737 aircraft.
