Clinical Chinese Medicine talents from the second session of an impatient clinical training program have practiced for two months at public healthcare institutions in the Greater Bay Area, marking their first opportunity to independently manage patients with short-term practice qualifications in mainland.
Launched in April last year, the advanced program sent the first five talents to a GBA grade 3A general hospital for eight months to learn from experienced clinical Chinese Medicine practitioners.
The second session, starting in November, added 11 positions and one practical specialty, totaling 16 talents and three specialties: Neurology, Acupuncture, and Oncology.
Rowena Wong How-wan, Chief Manager of Chinese Medicine from the Hospital Authority, said they are working to offer 16 more talents for the program this year and expect to send at least 10 by the end of the year.
“We also hope that starting next year, our collaboration with mainland can expand to other medical fields and take place in other cities like Beijing and Shanghai,” she said.
Elaine Tai, a Chinese Medicine Practitioner, said: “Participating in this program allows me to directly manage patients, rather than just observing from the sidelines in the inpatient department.”
Tai noted that mainland Chinese and Western Medicine doctors maintain close communication to provide comprehensive services for patients.
“I hope to bring this experience back to Hong Kong,” she said.
